China's commerce ministry accused the U.S. of launching "the largest trade war in economic history" Friday.
Trump said he implemented the tariffs because of "China's theft of intellectual property and technology and its other unfair trade practices."
China immediately responded with its own tariffs. It previously said it would retaliate dollar-for-dollar.
It's unclear how far this back-and-forth trade dispute will go. Both sides have already signaled that they plan to impose further tariffs on $16 billion worth of each other's goods at some point.
