Twitter Is Changing Up The Look Of Political Ads On Its Site

Those ads you see on Twitter may look pretty different soon — and hopefully, for the better.

On Tuesday, the tech company announced it's taking steps to make ads, specifically political ads, more transparent.

According to the announcement, future electioneering ads on Twitter will be marked with special badges and information identifying the campaigns that paid for them.

With the help of a new "Transparency Center," users will also be able to see more information about who's funding a campaign, advertisers' total and historical ad spending, target demographics of the ad and all the other ads running on Twitter.

These changes will roll out in the U.S. first — which makes sense, considering recent political pressure following allegations of Russian meddling during the 2016 elections.

Just last week, a bipartisan group of senators introduced the Honest Ads Act, which would improve disclosure requirements for digital political advertisements.
