Trump Announces Chief Of Staff Reince Priebus Is Out Via Twitter

President Donald Trump and his chief of staff Reince Priebus have parted ways.

Trump tweeted that retired Gen. John Kelly, Trump's secretary of homeland security, would take over as chief of staff, calling him a "true star of my Administration."

Trump also thanked Priebus for his service and said he was proud of him.

Priebus left his post as chairman of the Republican National Committee in January to manage the West Wing.

But recently, it appeared the tide was moving against the establishment Republican.

Trump hired his friend and businessman Anthony Scaramucci to become the new White House communications director. Scaramucci had little political and communications experience. Priebus and chief strategist Steve Bannon reportedly urged Trump against hiring Scaramucci.

Earlier in the week, Priebus acknowledge he faced a lot of pressure at his job.

"If you look back at chiefs of staff it's the number one hot seat there is, as far as a West Wing employee," Priebus said.

Priebus' ally from the RNC, Press Secretary Sean Spicer, resigned after Scaramucci was hired. Another ally, Katie Walsh, left the White House in the spring.

In a recent interview, Scaramucci was quoted as saying Priebus would "be asked to resign very shortly."

Kelly is a 45-year Marine Corps veteran. It's unclear who will take his spot in the Department of Homeland Security.
