The U.S. Department of State issued a Level 4 "Do Not Travel" advisory on Thursday. It's urging citizens to not leave the country amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The department said U.S. citizens who are already abroad should make immediate arrangements to get back to the States, unless they are planning to stay there indefinitely. It also advised citizens who live abroad to avoid crossing international borders.

The department warned that citizens who choose to leave the U.S. anyway could end up being forced to stay outside of the country indefinitely.
