President Donald Trump's pick for U.S. ambassador to Singapore has dropped out of the running.

K.T. McFarland served as the deputy national security adviser for the Trump administration before being tapped for the ambassador role.

McFarland's confirmation was held up in the Senate over concerns she knew more than she let on about the discussions between former national security adviser Mike Flynn and a Russian ambassador.

Trump said he was "disappointed" that McFarland withdrew her name. He pinned the blame on some Democrats who "chose to play politics rather than move forward with a qualified nominee."
