Nearly 40 fires and explosions broke out across several communities north of Boston, Massachusetts.

As of Thursday evening, authorities said they believed the incidents may have been caused by over-pressurized gas lines.

Several people have reportedly been hospitalized, some in critical condition, because of the fires.

At one point, power was cut off to all residents in the towns of Lawrence, Andover and North Andover.

The National Transportation Safety Board is sending a team to investigate.
