Car Crashes Into Fla. Church On Easter, Injures 21

More than 20 people were injured after a car plowed into a Fort Myers, Florida church during an Easter celebration Sunday night.

More than 20 people were injured after a car plowed into a Fort Myers, Florida church during an Easter celebration Sunday night.

WBBH reports the car ran into pews where police say up to 40 people were sitting. According to witnesses, some of the those injured in the crash were pinned under the car. Police say churchgoers used jacks to free them.

According to WFTX, 200 people were inside the church at the time of the crash around 8 p.m. The damaged part of the church was boarded up Monday morning. 

At least 18 of the 21 people injured in the accident were taken to local hospitals. So far, the names of those injured are not known. (Via WINK)

WZVN reports most of the injuries in Sunday's crash are minor.

According to The News-Press, police have not released the name of the female driver. Police say she told them there was some sort of problem with her brakes.

Authorities are treating the crash as an accident and have not filed any charges against the driver. Police are still investigating what caused the accident.
