Shortly after Yanez fired seven shots into the car, Castile's girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, started broadcasting the now-famous video of the aftermath of that shooting live on Facebook, which showed Castile's bloody body and Reynolds' daughter in the backseat.

In court, Officer Yanez told the jury he feared for his life.

"I know he had an object and it was dark. ... As he was pulling it out I, a million things started going through my head. And I thought I was gonna die," Yanez said.

Castile's mother, Valerie Castile, had this to say after the jury acquitted Yanez:

"My son loved this state. He had one tattoo on his body and it was of the Twin Cities. The state of Minnesota with 'TC' on it. He loved this city, and this city killed my son and the murderer gets away," she said.
