It looks like all the tech giants are gearing up for the holidays. That includes Microsoft, which reportedly has its own smartwatch ready to hit the market in the next few weeks.

Forbes, citing anonymous sources, says Microsoft will have a smartwatch on the market before the holiday season begins that works across different mobile platforms, carries two days worth of battery life and tracks the wearer's heart rate.

These images — which many speculated were designs for the new smartwatch — first surfaced over the summer and got the rumor mill going about Microsoft's bid in the smartwatch market.

A market that seems to be getting more and more crowded every month, as Apple unveiled its long-rumored Apple Watch in September and Samsung's Gear 2 was released a few months earlier in March.

Some tech writers say Microsoft may be able to hang its hat on the battery life. Both Samsung and Apple's models have to be charged at least once a day while this rumored watch can last for two days without being plugged in.

Others point to the device being compatible with all devices while Apple's smartwatch will be exclusive to the iOS operating system.

As you may remember, this isn't Microsoft's first go at the wearable market. In 2004 Microsoft partnered with some popular watch companies — Fossil being one of them — and released the SPOT watch. (Video via YouTube / SmartWatchNews)

Let's hope this venture goes better than that one did.
