teacher strike in West Virginia is set to end after the state's governor proposed a pay raise for teachers.

Gov. Jim Justice said Tuesday he'd like to see a 5 percent increase in teachers' wages statewide. The announcement came after a meeting with teachers' union representatives at the state Capitol.

The proposal is part of a deal to get teachers back into classrooms on Thursday. Every public school in West Virginia has been closed for the past four school days because of the strike. Salaries for teachers in West Virginia were ranked 48th in the nation in 2016.

In addition to a 5 percent bump for teachers, all state employees in the state would see a 3 percent raise under the governor's proposal. The deal now goes to the legislature.
