On Saturday, Yellow Vest protests continued for the 18th straight weekend in France, some of them turning violent.
After a lull in the demonstrations in recent weeks, protesters came out in full force this weekend, throwing smoke bombs at police and setting fires to buildings. Large plumes of smoke could be seen above Paris' famed Champs-Elysees Avenue.
According to the interior ministry, nearly 10,000 people participated in Paris, a sharp rise from the approximately 2,000 demonstrators who showed up the weekend before.
The continued protests come after a two-month national debate organized by President Emmanuel Macron to address the protesters' concerns. The demonstrations were initially sparked by frustration with high taxes and the status of the wealthy in French society.
Police have arrested more than 120 protesters in Paris as of Saturday afternoon, according to Reuters.
