Prominent Venezuelan rebel leader Oscar Perez was killed in a shootout with police on Monday, according to officials.
Perez posted videos on Instagram of what he said was a police raid on his group's hideout. In one of the increasingly bloody videos, he claims he and his group were surrounded and police were shooting them with grenade launchers.
Perez gained notoriety after dropping grenades on the Venezuelan Supreme Court from a helicopter. In one of the videos of the shootout, he shouts a surrender but says the authorities want him dead.
Opposition leaders called for a report on the raid and opened an investigation into Perez's death.
