The United States Steel Corporation is adding hundreds of jobs. The company says it's restarting one of the blast furnaces at its plant in Granite City, Illinois, and will hire around 300 people.

The announcement comes after President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico and the European Union earlier this month.

This is round two for U.S. Steel: It restarted another furnace in March after first learning the president planned to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum. That opening brought back 500 jobs.

The company says turning on this second furnace will support the increased need for U.S.-made steel.
