The Trump administration is working to ease regulations on humanitarian trade with Iran.
Last week, the Treasury Department announced a new "mechanism" to ensure Iran still receives food, medicine and other forms of aid. It will also make sure funds associated with so-called "permissible trade" aren't diverted to support Iran's weapons program or terrorist groups.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a statement: "This new humanitarian mechanism will help international companies that seek to engage in permissible humanitarian trade with Iran to ensure that they do not run afoul of sanctions."
The move comes amid concerns that Iran wasn't getting shipments of food and medicine that are typically allowed to countries under sanctions.
