The popular livestreaming platform Twitch is no longer available in China, a spokesperson confirmed Friday.

Twitch's website became inaccessible in the country on Thursday, and its app has been removed from China's iOS app store. Both Twitch and China have yet to say why the service was suddenly removed.

Twitch is a service that allows people to stream and watch live broadcasts, and is especially popular with video gamers. It currently has 15 million daily users and more than 2 million content creators, according to a survey. Amazon acquired the service for nearly $1 billion in 2014.

The streaming service has been growing in popularity in China over the last few months, particularly with its broadcasts of eSports matches during the 2018 Asian Games. In August, the Twitch app became the third most downloaded free app in China, according to China-based tech news site Abacus
