President Donald Trump's personal lawyer John Dowd says it's time to shut down special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
Dowd told The Daily Beast he hopes Acting Attorney General Rod Rosenstein would follow the "courageous example" of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and bring an end to the investigation.
The statement comes a day after Sessions fired former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, citing "lack of candor."
Dowd initially said he was speaking for the president as his counsel, but he later told CNN he was only speaking for himself.
