President Donald Trump suggested Russian President Vladimir Putin visit the White House, according to a Kremlin adviser.

Trump reportedly did so during a phone call last month in which he congratulated Putin on his re-election against the advice of White House security advisers.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters Monday the White House was one of "a number of potential venues" discussed by the two leaders.

The phone call took place less than a week after the U.K. expelled 23 Russian diplomats in response to the poisoning of a former Russian spy on British soil. The U.S. has since joined the U.K. and other countries and expelled 60 Russian diplomats of its own.

The leaders haven't yet made plans for a White House meeting. The last time Putin visited 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. was in 2005 during George W. Bush's presidency.
