President Donald Trump dedicated a national monument, Friday, in Kentucky.
The new dedication protects Camp Nelson, a Civil War supply depot, hospital and recruiting center for African American soldiers.
The Associated Press reports there are some political implications to this designation. Rep. Andy Barr, who represents the district that includes Camp Nelson, is facing a tight race against his Democrat challenger, Amy McGrath. But Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke told the outlet this wasn't about giving Barr an election bump.
The new monument will consist of 380 acres of land which were donated to the federal government by Kentucky officials.
