Trump Reportedly Weighing Closing The Southern Border To Migrants
The executive action reportedly being considered uses the same immigration law behind the president's travel ban.

As a migrant caravan continues its trek through Mexico toward the U.S., the Trump administration is reportedly considering a plan to deny them the opportunity to seek asylum.

Multiple outlets reported Thursday the proposed executive action would ban certain migrants from entering the U.S. at the southern border.

The Washington Post — which saw a draft of the proposed plan — says it would use the legal authority granted to the president by the Immigration and Nationality Act to block certain foreigners from entering the U.S. for national security reasons.

That's the same legal statue behind President Trump's travel ban. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the third version of that ban back in June.

As Newsy previously reported, the Trump administration is also expected to send at least 800 troops to help secure the southern border. The military personnel would assist with things like technical support, medical care and surveillance.

The Associated Press reports it'll most likely be weeks before Central American migrants in the caravan reach the U.S. border.
