The Trump administration will provide more aid to American farmers affected by escalating trade tensions with China.

According to the USDA, President Donald Trump authorized a second and final round of trade mitigation payments to help farmers "suffering from damage due to unjustified trade retaliation by foreign nations."

The agency says the move will bring the total payments to farmers to nearly $9.6 billion.

Back in July, the USDA said up to $12 billion in emergency relief will be used to help farmers hurt by retaliatory tariffs from China.

Some farmers voiced concerns after China retaliated against Trump's tariffs with tariffs of their own targeting U.S. exports of goods like soybeans, pork and beef. The tariffs could cost farmers billions of dollars in losses.

This latest round of aid will apply to the second half of 2018 production for producers of certain commodities, like corn, wheat, dairy and pork.
