The highest ranking officer in the U.S. military says no changes have been made to its "transgender policy" — at least, not yet.

In a message to top military officers Thursday, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Marine Corps Gen. Joseph Dunford said, "There will be no modifications to the current policy until the President's direction has been received by the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary has issued implementation guidance."

Dunford's announcement came the day after President Donald Trump tweeted that he's barring transgender people from serving in the military.

It's unclear exactly how Trump plans to enforce that ban. In the meantime, Dunford said in his memo officials should "continue to treat all of our personnel with respect."
