SHOW TRANSCRIPT

Harvey Weinstein has been kicked out of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. That makes him only the second known person in its 90-year existence to be permanently expelled.

"The Godfather" actor Carmine Caridini was expelled in 2004 for sharing advanced screenings.

The decision follows accusations of sexual harassment and assault against the Hollywood producer and mogul. More than two dozen women have come forward.

The move to expel a member over these allegations is unprecedented.

Bill Cosby, who's also been accused of sexual misconduct and assault by dozens of women, is still a member. So is Roman Polanski, who pleaded guilty to having sex with a minor. And they're not the only ones.

The Academy appears to be taking a stance against what some call Hollywood's "casting couch" culture. The Academy said in a statement, "the era of willful ignorance and shameful complicity in sexually predatory behavior and workplace harassment in our industry is over."

More than two-thirds of the Academy's governors voted for the expulsion. Weinstein has denied the assault allegations against him.
