The choir famously known as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is moving forward under a new name.

It's been renamed The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, getting rid of the word "Mormon" to better align with recent church guidelines.

In August, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints President Russell M. Nelson asked people to stop using nicknames like "Mormon" and "LDS" in place of the church's full name. The terminology has been used for decades by church members and the general public.

To be clear, the church has long requested the use of its full name. But it still accepted some of those nicknames as shorthand.

This is the first significant change since the name guidance was announced. Nelson said church websites and other official materials will be updated to reflect the new direction "in the coming months."
