Adam FalkShazam released an update to its iPhone app Monday. It's reportedly part of what Shazam calls a "larger refresh of the app" that's expected to come out sometime in the next month.
For those who've used it, you know Shazam can listen to and identify a song — sometimes in less than a second.
But with a redesigned tag-results page, the app hopes to keep you around a bit longer. The page has been revamped to display your options card-style.
Unlike the list users are used to, the cards call out specific interactions, the largest of which is on the left side. Depending on the song, it will display lyrics or a video.
To the right, you'll see cards for streaming services Spotify and Rdio. Shazam is hoping these cards catch your attention and keep you engaged past that initial tag.
TechCrunch says this has been a weak spot for Shazam. "The app has struggled to break free of its more utilitarian aspects involving music identification, to become more of a social network or music discovery service of its own."
The redesign is the first in a larger content rollout, and MacRumors reports Monday's update is only going to a test group. "That means some users who download the new 7.4.0 update will have immediate access to the app's new features while other users will need to wait for the update to rollout later."
According to The Next Web, which spoke with a Shazam spokesperson, the update is also coming to Android in the coming weeks.
