Queen Elizabeth II made a rare statement Thursday calling for British citizens to find "common ground" amid growing tensions over Brexit.
At a speech to a women's group, the queen called for lawmakers to respect "different points of view" and to avoid losing "sight of the bigger picture." These comments come as the U.K. is experiencing turmoil as it decides how to move forward with an exit from the EU. Parliament recently rejected Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit plan.
The comments from the queen are seen as unusual due to the monarch's status as a non-political entity expected to hold back from expressing any view that may be seen as leaning toward a certain political party.
May is expected to present a revised plan for Brexit Jan. 29.
