On Friday, presidential hopeful Sen. Elizabeth Warren released her abortion rights platform, which calls for a series of measures designed to prevent a rollback of abortion rights.
The platform is focused on establishing "affirmative, statutory rights" at the Congressional level. Warren calls for federal laws that would prevent states from disrupting the ability of health care providers to provide abortion services and other medical care. She also calls for laws restricting states' ability to block patients from getting abortions.
In an online post, Warren said, "The overwhelming majority of Americans have no desire to return to the world before Roe v. Wade ... And so the time to act is now."
Warren announced her platform in the wake of multiple states voting in partial or nearly complete bans of abortion. In Alabama specifically, backers of a recently passed law that bans virtually all abortions say their goal is to challenge Roe v. Wade in the Supreme Court.
