Indianapolis has a new hero, but not the kind that wears a cape. This hero has four legs and an affinity for bacon.

Nick Lamb:"He woke me up because I could not hear anything when I was asleep. I looked around my room. I smelled smoke." (VIA WISH)

Lindsay Bernard: "I went into a little bit of a panic. I just told him to get out if he wasn't already. Then I called the fire department myself." (Via The Indianapolis Star

The home reportedly suffered around $175,000 in damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is thought to have been electrical. (Via WXIN)

It seems rare for a pit bull to actually garner positive media attention.

And in 2010, The Daily Beast named Pit Bulls the most dangerous dog in the U.S.

However the ASPCA says, "Pit bulls aren’t all bad. Along with their strength and spirit comes an inspiring zest for life and an ardent affinity for people."

Both Ace and Nick are said to be doing well. The family cat was also in the home at the time of the fire and was rescued by firefighters.
