The Pentagon is investigating acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan for alleged ethics violations.
A federal watchdog called Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics filed a complaint with the Defense Department's inspector general last week. It accused Shanahan, a former Boeing employee, of promoting Boeing products and "disparag[ing] the company's competitors to his subordinates."
The major question being investigated is whether Shanahan violated an ethics agreement he signed. That agreement was meant to ensure there'd be no conflicts of interest involving Boeing during his time at the DOD.
President Donald Trump has reportedly been considering Shanahan as a candidate to become the permanent secretary of defense.
