Paris Protests Over Fuel Prices And President Turn Violent
Officials have so far blamed right-wing groups for fomenting much of the violence.
SHOW TRANSCRIPT

Demonstrations in Paris over the weekend turned violent as thousands of people protested rising fuel costs and Emmanuel Macron's presidency.

Macron's government has imposed taxes on diesel fuel and gasoline, in part to reduce the country's greenhouse gas emissions and to fund renewable energy. Officials have blamed far-right groups for fomenting violent resistance to the taxes.

Macron is scheduled to give a speech Tuesday addressing the protests, which are also known as the "yellow-vest movement" for the high-visibility vests the protesters typically wear.

The demonstrations come a week after similar but much larger protests across the country left one person dead and hundreds more injured.
