The CDC says the number of reported cases in an ongoing E. coli outbreak has climbed above 100.

Health officials say the infections are linked to romaine lettuce harvested from Salinas, California, and have been reported in at least 23 states.

Consumers are being advised not to eat romaine lettuce from the Salinas area, and the FDA has requested producers to take the lettuce off the market for the remainder of the growing season.

Hospitalizations linked to the outbreak are being reported, with some developing kidney failure.

Investigators are working to locate the exact source of the outbreak.
