Officials in Harris County announced Friday afternoon a second fire was contained after it reignited at a petrochemical facility in Houston earlier in the day.
Although the initial fire had been extinguished on Wednesday, multiple crews responded to a storage facility in Deer Park, Texas after two tanks appeared to be on fire.
The fires at the facility originally began Sunday and quickly spread to storage tanks containing materials used for gasoline. As Newsy has previously reported, officials issued a shelter-in-place warning on Thursday due to elevated levels of benzene in the air.
Company officials said the U.S. Coast Guard had previously closed part of the Houston Ship Channel after the breach due to its proximity to the location of the fire.
Authorities are investigating how many tanks were involved in Friday's fire and the chemicals in each tank. Officials have opened an investigation into both fires.
