Most of the Pentagon's F-35 fighter jets have been cleared for takeoff after the entire fleet was grounded for inspections.

The F-35 Joint Program Office said in a statement Monday more than 80 percent of operational F-35s have been cleared and resumed their flight operations.

Last week, the Defense Department temporarily halted all flights of its F-35 jets to inspect them for potentially faulty engine tubes.

The move came a couple of weeks after an F-35 jet crashed in South Carolina. The inspection was prompted by initial findings from the ongoing investigation into the crash.
