Briana KoenemanWhen the school year starts up again this fall, students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, won't have to carry clear backpacks anymore. But they will have to go through metal detectors.
According to a report from the Sun Sentinel, the school will be the first in Broward County to use metal detectors.
It's unclear if the school will use portable or stationary metal detectors. And officials are still trying to determine the best way to get students through them without creating long lines.
The Sentinel says Marjory Stoneman Douglas High has been the focus for new security initiatives ever since a shooting at the school left 17 people dead earlier this year.
Other security upgrades at the school include a new buzzer system at the front entrance, additional security personnel and a new intercom system.
