Arizona Sen. John McCain is in the hospital with an intestinal infection, according to a statement from his office. He had surgery for the infection Sunday.

It's not exactly clear what his condition is like, but his office said Monday he was stable. He's at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix.

McCain was diagnosed with brain cancer last year. He's been treated for the disease and has been getting physical therapy because of the side effects of that treatment, according to his office.
