For the third time in the last month, Iran has seized a foreign oil tanker in the Persian Gulf.
According to Iranian state media, the ship was seized because it was carrying smuggled fuel away from Iran, although no evidence was presented. Seven crew members have been detained since the tanker was seized on Wednesday.
The ship was carrying nearly 700,000 liters of fuel when Iran's Revolutionary Guard took control of it.
The seizure of the tanker comes as tensions between the U.S. and Iran continue to rise since the Trump administration withdrew from a 2015 nuclear deal and reimposed sanctions on the country.
So far, the nationality of the crew and the tanker itself has not been revealed.
