Instagram and Facebook are banning branded content that promotes vaping, tobacco products and weapons.

Facebook, which owns Instagram, says the new policy tightens advertising rules that are already in place.

In addition, restrictions will be required for branded content that promotes alcohol or diet supplements.

Facebook says it's building tools to help influencers comply with the new policies, such as the ability to restrict content viewing based on age.

The company says the enforcement of these policies will begin within the next few weeks and will go into full effect next year.
