The Department of Defense has announced the death of Sgt. 1st Class Dustin B. Ard. He was killed Thursday while supporting Operation Freedom in Afghanistan.
Ard was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington. He died "as a result of wounds sustained while engaged in combat operations in Zabul Province."
Less than two weeks ago, the DOD announced two other U.S. soldiers had died in Afghanistan.
Last week, President Donald Trump told Fox News Radio he intends to withdraw thousands of troops from Afghanistan but will leave 8,600 there for the time being.
The Department of Defense says there will be an investigation into the circumstances of Ard's death.
