Customs And Border Protection Is Taking Down Border Wall Prototypes
The eight prototype border walls cost more than $3 million in contracts.
SHOW TRANSCRIPT

Customs and Border Protection began taking down the Trump administration's border wall prototypes on Wednesday in order to clear space for a new construction project.

The project began in 2017; CBP handed out contracts worth more than $3 million for the construction of eight different prototype walls. The agency finished testing and evaluating the prototypes in October 2017.

CNN reports the prototype barriers may not have done very well in tests, but the results have not been announced to the public.

It's worth noting that Congress has blocked CBP from using the prototype wall designs in new projects — it's used previous designs for the barriers that have been funded in the last two years.

It's not clear if that restriction would apply to any border wall projects funded by President Trump's national emergency declaration.
