The number of U.S. fatalities from the coronavirus has now surpassed 3,000.

According to Johns Hopkins University, approximately a third of those deaths have occurred in New York.

Disease experts on President Trump's coronavirus task force estimate the death toll could reach 100,000 to 200,000 in the U.S. Meanwhile, the White House announced it extended social distancing guidelines until April 30

"Challenging times are ahead for the next 30 days. And this is a very vital 30 days. We are sort of putting it all on the line, this 30 days. So important because we have to get back. But the more we dedicate ourselves today, the more quickly we will emerge on the other side of the crisis," President Donald Trump said.

Throughout the country, state and local officials are continuing to call upon the federal government for additional assistance in securing much-needed medical supplies. U.S. Navy hospital ships have arrived in Los Angeles and New York City to help ease the strain on the health care system, and temporary field hospitals are popping up in communities across the country.
