49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport Sunday after allegedly telling airport security he was in possession of a bomb.

An ESPN reporter says the trouble began when Smith was selected for secondary screening while going through airport security. "Smith then became belligerent and uncooperative with the process and with the TSA agent, making the comment that he was in possession of a bomb."

TMZ posted this video of Smith in handcuffs, surrounded by airport police. The site reports Smith told police he did nothing wrong, and that they were going to be "embarrassed."

The Sacremento Bee reports LAPD booked Smith for a false report of a bomb threat, a crime punishable by up to a year in jail.

Smith has had a troubled history with the law in the past: he's been arrested twice since 2012 for DUI and weapons charges. (VIa  KGO-TV)

A KNTV reporter says the NFL is likely to take Smith's previous record into consideration when dealing with this latest incident.

"Three run-ins with law enforcement in a two-year period, that's likely to bring some sort of action from the NFL that could keep him from playing with the 49ers."

And a sports blogger for the San Jose Mercury News points out Smith's arrest is the latest in a string of legal troubles for 49ers players — quarterback Colin Kaepernick is currently under investigation by the Miami Police Department. "When your franchise goes through the series of incidents the 49ers have, you are going to be rightfully questioned and at times ridiculed."

The 49ers released a statement saying the team was disappointed to learn of the incident involving Smith, but would not comment further on a pending legal matter.
