'Star Wars: Episode VIII' Production Announcement Is A Tease Of Intergalactic Proportions

Feb. 15, 2016

It's good to know recluse Luke Skywalker has been busy brooding on the island of Skellig Michael since the end of Episode VII. Her arm is still extended to Luke Skywalker from the parting shot that never ended.

Take the damn lightsaber, okay?!

Luke Skywalker, failed Jedi academy instructor, is featured in the "Star Wars: Episode VIII" production announcement. We were fine just coasting on the leftover excitement from "Episode VII," but then Walt Disney Studios and Lucasfilm Ltd. drops this on us? This is a tease of intergalactic proportions.

We don't know much about the upcoming film, but we do know who plans to make an appearance in the next "Star Wars" installment. An announcement on StarWars.com named franchise newcomers Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran in unspecified roles.

Returning cast members include Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis.

We'll figure out what Luke's been up to on that island when "Star Wars: Episode VIII" drops Dec. 15, 2017.
