Freddie Mercury Was A Star, But Now He's Memorialized As An Asteroid, As Well
September 5, 2016Astrophysicist Brian May, who also played guitar in Queen, has the coolest resume imaginable. That made him uniquely suited for the Sept. 5 announcement that his old friend and bandmate Freddie Mercury is getting an asteroid named after him.
Happy Birthday Freddie ! They already named a planet after you, but this little ROCK is a bonus ! ha ha. Bri https://t.co/HqvsHtyc9E

The announcement came on what would have been Mercury's 70th birthday. And the asteroid in question was discovered in 1991, the year Mercury died. It seems like a fitting tribute to the man who said, "I always knew I was a star. And now, the rest of the world seems to agree with me."
He was a star, but it's pretty cool he'll get to share his name with an asteroid, too.
