This Year's Fourth Of July Celebrations Could Be Guac-LessBy Madeline McClain | June 30, 2016
Party hosts may have to nix guacamole from their Fourth of July menus.
The Los Angeles Times says a record-breaking heat wave in Southern California might cause an avocado shortage.
California is not America's only source for the superfruit. Over 80 percent of the supply comes from Mexico. But according to the Times, avocado demand is outstripping Mexican growers' production.
Earlier this month, the shortage in New Zealand even caused a wave of avocado thefts there. The U.S. has yet to report similar problems, but the holiday weekend is fast approaching.
Let the avocado games begin. May the odds be ever in your favor.
