Governor discusses his 2010 Jobs Package at video news startup in Columbia, Missouri
Columbia, MO - January 21, 2010 - Newsy.com, a multi-source video news service, is one of the Missouri companies where Governor Jay Nixon will describe his 2010 Jobs Package, which was the centerpiece of his State of the State Address last night.

Newsy.com, in partnership with the University of Missouri and the world-renowned Missouri School of Journalism, provides students with real-world experience in its state-of-the-art newsroom. Newsy.com offers two courses to students: An online audience development class, and a global converged news class taught by Newsy.com Vice President of Editorial Pam Maples, who was previously the managing editor of the St. Louis Post Dispatch.
Newsy.com's partnership with the Missouri School of Journalism and its relocation to Columbia MO from Silicon Valley provides Newsy.com with a strategic competitive advantage that enables the company to compete more effectively on the global stage.
"We need to give people a reason to stay and work in Missouri - in the past, you had to go to Silicon Valley or New York City to work at an innovative web startup company - now you can do it right here in Columbia," says Spencer, a Missouri native who received his master's degree from the Missouri School of Journalism.
The company has raised $1.7 million of $2 million in its second round of funding, all from Missouri-based investors. The company plans to complete the round by February 20, 2010.
Newsy.com received economic development incentives including tax credits from the Missouri State Department of Economic Development and strong local support from the City of Columbia (REDI).
