The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says it's considering ways it can regulate the sale of cannabis-based food and beverages across state lines.

The FDA's commissioner said in a press release Thursday the agency is looking at potential regulatory "pathways" for products containing cannabis and cannabis-derived compounds, like CBD oil.

The commissioner also said it will take action against companies that illegally sell those products.

The FDA made the announcement the same day President Donald Trump signed the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018

The $867 billion farm bill set rules for agriculture, nutrition, conservation and forestry policies. It also legalized hemp by removing it from the Controlled Substances Act.
