He quit on the Cubs, now the Cubs are quitting on him…for the rest of the season at least.
“Chicago Cubs Pitcher Carlos Zambrano is out for the rest of the season. Big Z’s thirty day suspension ends on September 11th, but there’s not enough time to get him ready to pitch again.”
Chicago will continue to pay his salary this year. USA Today reports the Cubs said there’s just not enough time left in the season for Zambrano to take the field.
There might be more to the story. The Cubs have put up with Zambrano’s antics since 2007. Is the club ready to cut the ties with one of their most successful pitchers? Will this be Zambrano’s last pitch as a Cubbie?

“They should have gotten rid of him when he started punching players in the dugout two years ago.”
Cubs Manager Mike Quade (Quad-dee), isn’t so sure.
“Do you think he can be a winner regardless of where he’s pitching next year?
Hell... he was. I don’t know how all that plays out. He still has something to offer. And his numbers bear that out the last year.”
The team must pay Zambrano 18 million dollar contract next year. We’ll see if the Cubs will deal with the tantrums for the talent.
