Yasser Arafat’s remains have been exhumed to pinpoint just how he died. Some suspect foul play in the Palestinian leader’s death. Al Jazeera and HLN have more:

“Forensic experts have removed samples from the remains of the former Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat, eight years after his death. Investigators are trying to find out whether Arafat was poisoned when he died.”

“… but high levels of a radioactive material were found on his toothbrush and his head scarf that he wore a lot.”

That radioactive material is polonium — which has become a variable of high interest in the leader’s death. CBS News provides some insight on the dangerous substance:

“Polonium … can only be produced in lethal quantities by a state run-laboratory. A swiss lab found what were described as ‘significant traces’ of the radioactive substance …

Palestinian leaders have blamed Israel for Arafat’s 2004 death. The Guardian notes:

“Israel has repeatedly denied killing Arafat and called on the Palestinian leadership to release his medical records, which it has steadfastly refused to do.”

Arafat’s remains were reburied just six hours after his body was exhumed.
