So does she sound digitally enhanced? Many fans in Britain think so. They flocked online to complain that Simon Cowell’s "X-Factor" is digitally enhancing contestant’s voices using auto-tune. KTLA has the details.
“The tables have turned on Simon Cowell as he gets harsh judgment for the 'x factor'. Angry viewers took to the web after the season premiere. Apparently it was obvious that some of the vocals were manipulated to perhaps help contestants with better story lines. Anyhow, this is called auto tune, a technical thing that they use to help singers.”
Dallas’ WFAA reports Cowell says he had no idea it was happening.
“Cowell claims he didn't realize it was going on and immediately ordered the practice to stop.”
But Contact Music reports an unauthorized biographer who follows Cowell is skeptical of his innocence.
"On Tuesday Cowell said that he was not aware that the technology was being employed on the show … But Chas Newkey-Burden expressed skepticism [saying] ‘No one on the production team would have the nerve to introduce the use of Auto-Tune without Simon's OK … Not even the bravest person in TV would have tried that. They would have to be mad.’”
A blogger for the Telegraph doesn’t think it’s such a big deal and says the show has never really been about the singing anyway.
“I don’t care whether the singing is artificially enhanced or not. In fact, I don’t care about the singing full stop. If I want to hear decent music, I’ll turn off my TV and listen to a record. What I want from The 'X Factor' is controversy, silliness, bickering, absurdity, glitz and tat. And I’m certainly getting it.”
NBC tries to figure out the details of the scandal and questions what this will mean for the American version of the show that’s debuting in 2011.
“No, we don’t know where the American version of ‘X Factor’ will stand on Auto-Tuning. A FreemantleMedia spokesman said Tuesday the production company had no comment.”
"X-Factor" is set to air in America on Fox in 2011. So, will you be watching? Does it matter is they use auto-tune?
