Two nursing home workers charged with caring for the eldering -- are heading for some hard time.
Their crime -- rubbing down 8 dementia patients with slippery oil... as a prank.
McNight’s explains..the ill-advised joke...
“... involved coating seven elderly dementia patients head-to-toe with a greasy ointment so they would be ‘slippery’ and difficult to handle for the next shift of caregivers at Valley View Skilled Nursing Home in Ukiah, CA.”
The incident happened back in 2009 -- six employees were immediately fired.
Five of them -- were charged.
Now -- the two ringleaders will spend 20 days in county jail for misdemeanor elder abuse.
As for the others involved, the Press-Democrat reports...
“Another defendant ... was ordered to serve 150 hours of community service and placed on two years probation ... Two others ... were found guilty of failure to report elder abuse. They each were sentenced to two years probation and ordered to serve... community service ...”
No patients were injured by the prank. Still -- it’s a message from prosecutors -- the joke isn’t funny.
At all.
The Ukiah Daily Journal reports..
“...prosecutors are satisfied the plea agreement underscores a message that, ‘Elder abuse in any form, including the lack of dignity and respect for elders, will not be tolerated."
The two employees -- both women -- who will serve jail time, and then will be on probation for two years after their release.
