BY CHANCE SEALES
It’s the video giving new meaning to the term "crazy cat lady". A homeowner’s security cam caught a 45-year-old bank worker, Mary Bane, red handed in a brazen act. CNN has the video.
“This is in Coventry, England and she’s (okay, not her cat, just walking on by) … then she opens up that garbage bin right there (right) and dumps the cat right in there (no, no, no).”
ABC points out just how big a splash this story made in England.
“Front page news. The trapped Chilean miners — by the way — only made page 27. ... The cat is okay. I repeat, the cat is okay. But police are now standing guard outside that woman’s house, making sure no one dumps her in the garbage can.”
The unlucky tabby cat is 4-year-old Lola. She sat in that can for 15 hours before her owners heard her meowing. Two HLN anchors ask, “What is wrong with this lady?”
“The woman said she just did it as a joke. She’s been getting death threats from angry animal lovers. (Oh, that’s a great joke!) Ha ha. (She’s going to have to work on her humor. Oh my goodness) Maybe the proposal … maybe not the death threats … should be, how would you feel if you were in a trash can for 15 hours.”
England’s Sky News went straight to the source — getting reaction from the cat owner and the woman now dubbed “the furminator.”
“I think it’s disgusting. I don’t know how anyone could treat a harmless animal that can’t defend itself … just do something like that to it.”
REPORTER: “Mary, are you sorry about what happened?”
BANE: “Of course I am. Of course I am.”
REPORTER: “Tell me what the press statement says.”
BANE: “You’ll read it. It’s been sent out.”
REPORTER: “Who through?”
BANE: “I’ve got no further comment at this stage.”
English newspaper, The Sun, talked to Bane’s mother, Celia, who says the incident shocked everyone — including her own daughter.
“'Mary said she just didn't know what possessed her ... She absolutely adores cats, she's an animal lover, it just doesn't make sense.'”
Police and animal rights groups are now investigating Bane. So was this a joke gone wrong or a case of serious animal cruelty? Sound off in our comments section.
